And they said it wouldn’t last…

Well, maybe they did but not to us. Or at least I was too stressed to listen.

Today marks the first anniversary of my marriage to Mary. Thanks again to everyone who made the 31st of March, 2007 so special, not least my lovely wife. Here’s to many, many more years.

Back

Ooh, what a time to go and move servers and not blog for a while…

I think everyone probably knows by now that Mary & I tied the knot on the 31st of March. The day went extraordinarily well with very few hiccups, which we’re attributing to the fact that we deliberately left the running of the day to the professionals. The service was lovely (albeit accompanied by Les Dawson’s long lost brother on the organ – amusement all round). The meal was superb. The speeches were touching, adequate and fantastic (by Father-of-the-Bride, Groom and Best-Man, respectively), and the evening was great fun.

My wife and I would like to take this opportunity to say “Thankyou” to everyone involved for helping our day go quite so swimmingly. You know who you are :)

And now for the customary links:

Cool as a…

The big day is approaching fast, and whilst Mary and I feel like we should be stressed beyond belief, rushing round every waking moment, organising widgets, doofers, flidlets and gooblies we are actually quite chilled.  I suppose the fact that we don’t actually know what things we should be organising should tell us something.  We didn’t, for example, know that your wedding was supposed to have a ‘theme’ – we thought ‘Wedding’ would be our theme, but apparently that’s not good enough.  Of course, us being us, we started listing themes we might like… Country and Western?  Star Wars (I’d quite like to reverse tradition and have me stride up the aisle to the opening bars of the Imperial March…)? Vicars and tarts (hmm – possibly not)?  I suspect the nice lady asking us what our theme was was actually trying to find out about colours, or something – but it seems you never really know.

This is not to say we’ve not been quite extravagant, but I like to think we’ve shelled out on the things that are important to us, rather than the things that the glossy mags say should be important to us.  The dress, the photographer, the reception – all things I don’t begrudge paying the money for.  Wedding cars, on the other hand, are a big fat rip off, so we aren’t having one.  Favours?  Doing our own thanks.  Flowers?  Mary finally managed to find a florist who would actually listen to what she wanted rather than hearing “Wedding” and seeing the £ signs.

Now, being chilled about one of the biggest days of your life is undoubtedly a good thing.  It does leave us worrying slightly though.  What is everyone else doing at this point?  You hear stories of plans being made and remade right up to the morning of the day.  We’re not that organised (as anyone who’s ever met one of us will attest!), so what have we forgotten?  Church, rings, dress, suits, reception, cake, honeymoon all done.  What huge, humungous, vitally important thing is missing?

Dammit – I’m not so chilled now!

Hey look! A date!

Saturday the 31st of March, 2007.

Now that those who should be told face to face (or at least IM to IM) have been told, it’s high time I blogged about the upcoming event of the year, month, or even week :-) That’s right, ‘er indoors and I have finally set a date for our big day. Scary forms with fields like “Rank or profession of groom’s father” have been filled in, and not insubstantial amounts of cash have been parted with to secure venues and dresses. It’s all quite exciting :)

Please keep an eye out for impending correspondence, and wish us luck with the remaining plans :D
