Yes, “quirky”, I think that just about sums up our day today. We headed out to take a look at Deal Castle, but it was closed, so we carried on to Walmer Castle, but that was closed too. Our backups of Richborough Fort and the viking ship were, predictably, also closed. In the end we made do with a walk around Walmer’s gardens (“Lovely scaffolding, is that authentic Tudor?”), and a sandwich in Sandwich which, frankly, amused us more than it ought to have done…
Truly quirky moments included having our path blocked by a downed tree, and acting like a knowledgeable local when accosted by a lost visitor: “Well, you see that tree in the road? That’s not normally there so you probably want to be the other side of that.” And 2 horses ‘parked’ outside a garage. And spotting this door knocker on a post-lunch walk around Sandwich…
I like the picture – you can see right up his nose! (I’m actually flaring my nostrils as I type this!

The houseowner was flaring his nostrils at the sight of some weirdo taking closeup photos of his door, too
