The Department for Transport has recently published the results of a year-long survey into the use of privately owned vans. They came up with the following nuggets of information:
• 81% of trips take place on weekdays. You don’t say! That’s pretty amazing considering that an astronomical 71% of days are weekdays!
• Peak periods are between 8am-9am, and 4pm-5pm. Commonly referred to as ‘the rush hour’ then?
• At weekends, during the period from 8am to 6pm around 10% of vans are on the road. Yawn… bored yet?
I’m just glad my tax pounds are being put to good use… So what’s next? A survey to tell us that most people on the road between 8am-9am are on their way to work? How about one to find out what colour the sky is? Or whether cold potatoes are hot or not? People need to know these things!
(The report’s on the DfT website, if you’re interested… )
