It’s quiet…

…too quiet.

You ever get the feeling that the peace and tranquility you’re experiencing is merely the big calm before a BIG storm? Along with the added certainty that when it happens, you’re gonna be stuck right in the middle of it?

It’s been a slightly stressful day round here. I feel I should apologise to the people whos’ CVs took the brunt of my mood this morning. If the interviews in the following few days don’t turn up Mr Dynamite, maybe we’ll go back over the pile…

Old Stuff

Hi.

You’re probably here because you’ve clicked an old link somewhere, or you have a strange bookmark set up :-)

The old page doesn’t exist any more, I’m afraid, as I have migrated stuff across to my new all-singing weblog doobrie. Having said that though, most of the old content has actually made it across to the new site. Have a look through the links section over there on the left, or give the search a go. If you really can’t find what you’re looking for (I didn’t realise there was anything here!), then mail me.

(Anything you like @ fretnoise.com will get to me)

Bye bye Monty…

Yep – Monty the Snowman has gone – maybe to reappear along with other inaccurate seasonal clichs next year :-)

Quite a busy, and, it has to be said, fun weekend. Birthday celebrations went well on Friday (albeit with the slight inconvenience of lost car keys), and it was great to see that special someone :-) Then there was more pubness last night, and even more this afternoon (without beer though, as I was driving). Occasional visitors to my humble abode will also be glad to note that my CD collection is no longer on the floor… woohoo \o/

I am led to believe (by this fantastic site) that the bright thing in the sky at the moment is Jupiter – by the way…

Hold the front page!

Apple have released something I don’t like! Namely the iPod mini. At $249 it’s only $50 cheaper than the smallest ‘proper’ iPod. For that you get a 4Gb drive (yes, big enough for most people), but, and here’s the issue, IT DOESN’T LOOK AS GOOD.

By the way, for those of you following the ‘will he, won’t he’ saga of me and a PowerBook, the jury is still out. But at the moment the decision is soundly on the side of reason and common sense. I don’t need one… my Vaio is fine… Erm… So there…

(Router’s still up, by the way)

Well knock me down with a feather…

It only works! I have installed my new Vigor 2600We ADSL Modem / Router / Wi-fi Access Point and everything appears to be hunky dory. Blimey. Even wi-fi with WEP enabled. So, in a nutshell it means I now have one ickle blue box doing the job my PC, the green fish-like modem, a network swtich and a wireless access point used to do. I am impressed (yeah yeah, I know… little things impress me).

Headache

Morning all – I appear to have a headache, and that is probably not being helped by the coffee I’m having, which seems to be the strongest one ever. :-D

Discussion aplenty here about timings, triggers, error checking and general stuff for our friends in the low countries. Why am I not surprised things seem to be getting more complex by the minute?

Oh and my new ADSL Modem/Router/Wii-fi Access Point should be arriving today, so I expect some period of downtime for this site tonight… Hopefully not too long ;-)

Oops…

Can you say ‘mind that’? I just discovered that the version of the weblog stuff I use is subtly insecure. Which is nice. Those of you who follow my ramblings (get out more) may notice a missing entry. Yep – that’d be the symptom then. I think it’s fixed – at least, I can’t make it do it again.

Anyhoo… back to work today, and what a comparative joy it is without the Christmas staff… I could park in the car park, I could have lunch when I wanted it… oh the little things in life :-)

Tick tock tick tock…

Happy New Year everyone – I hope you had a good one, and that the new year holds all that you expect and want it to. I’m not so sure why we, as a society, look to the ticking over of one figure on our home-made time system as a new start and some kind of punctuation mark, but we all do. You hear a lot of talk about fresh starts and clean leaves – I would rather not be doing something that needs restarting or cleaning in the first place…

Anyway, the new year does indeed hold a fair bit for myself and a few of the people around me. Good luck to everyone who needs it – congratulations to everyone who deserves it, and best wishes one and all :-)
